Established in 1981, the Yateem Center in Bahrain was one of the first to introduce the concept of a fully climate controlled shopping center. The Yateem Center is known as a successful downtown shopping centre in the Manama Suq. The location can be best approached from the Government Avenue, under Zamil tower, taking the road inwards.
A noteworthy feature of the building is the palm trees grown through the canopy. The second phase of the center includes visitor car park at the basement, and the three top floor storeys for shopping, apart from offices. This phase also included external fountains, and the largest escalator in the Middle East, which further strengthened the reputation of the center as a landmark.
Ever-since its establishment, greatest changes have taken place in the first floor. Built as an ordinary arcade, it was known for its sports shops and mini-suq (an intriguing blend of exotica). Although these influences still remain, there is now the new food court, which is the home of Penny’s and Bombay Chowpatty.
Walking through the mall, there are several new shops, particularly the clothing shops. There are many stylish women clothing on display, with shops such as the Bedaya Boutique, Mondo, The Outlet, Denim Chic, Clouds, Littlewoods, Awatif, Teen Fashion and the Cave and others.
Even the men needn’t feel disappointed, as they have the Faqihi Bros, Abdulghaffar, Centre Point and Planet Fashion to choose from. There is also a shop for sports clothing at Olympia.
Apart from clothing, the shops have a range of cosmetics and accessories to choose from, few of which are the Faces, Moons Top Shop, Reda Trading and Candy Country, all of which combine to give a range for all tastes.
As for the jewelry shops in the Centre, at one end of the ground floor is located the Al Zain Jewellers, while the Al Mahmood Pearls occupy the other end of the floor. These are supported by another five jewelers, and six watch shops, all selling the classic and modern jewelry pieces and costume jewelry, apart from bargain watches, which makes jewelry shopping a pleasure here.
Gajria Showroom at the ground floor is a major source for electronics goods, but now, there are also the computers, mobile phones, software, games and other electrical gadgets scattered throughout the center.
For visitors, tourists and souvenir-hunters, the Center has several souvenirs and knick-knacks shops. For the ease of travelers, the Yateem Center houses the ticketing offices of both Bahrain Air and Air Arabia.
There is provision for visitors’ car park at the basement, which permits two hours of free parking.
